What is Hyperhidrosis?
|
Axillary
Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessive perspiration,
usually underarms. It can cause great embarrassment and severely affect
quality of life.
|
|
How can it be treated?
|
Treatment is traditionally with strong
anti-perspirants or, in more severe cases, cutting the nerve supply
to the perspiration centres with an irreversible and complex operative
procedure.
Botox® (Botulinum Toxin) has been licenced in
the UK for the treatment of underarm perspiration. One session of
Botox® injections to the underarm can dramatically reduce perspiration
for up to 9 months.
This procedure is now available at the
Cotswold Medical Aesthetic Clinic.

What does the treatment involve?
|
|
The underarm should be shaved a few days prior
to the treatment. The Doctor will mark out a grid on the underarm
and apply up to 15 injections to each underarm; this is quick and
relatively painless - you would be able to resume normal activities
or work straight away. The whole process takes around 30 minutes.
